Ramanagara (Karnataka), Oct 16 Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday sought an investigation by the ED and the I-T Department into the alleged expenditure of Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore on a “sting” operation targeting a former chief minister, questioning the source and movement of funds.

Speaking to reporters at Bidadi in Ramanagara district, Kumaraswamy referred to the statement by Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka that Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore had allegedly been spent on the operation and said the matter warranted a thorough probe.

“Why are you limiting the discussion to the amount of money involved? If the entire matter comes out, it could seriously damage the state’s reputation. The situation has reached a point where the implications go far beyond the figures being discussed,” he said.

Alleging that the financial transactions involved could exceed Rs 15 crore, Kumaraswamy said an ED investigation could establish the source of the money and trace its movement.

“If the ED steps in, the truth will come out. An investigation can establish how the money was sourced and how the funds moved,” he said.
