Bengaluru, Oct 23 Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday accused the Karnataka government of failing to ensure a fair investigation into an alleged sting operation targeting former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alleging that those responsible were being shielded.
Addressing a press conference at the JD(S) headquarters, JP Bhavan, here, Kumaraswamy questioned the handling of the case and alleged that the investigation was not proceeding with the seriousness it warranted.
He also rejected the charge that the JD(S) was exploiting the controversy for political gain.
“This is not an issue that the JD(S) is trying to exploit for political gain,” the JD(S) second-in-command clarified.
He demanded that the truth behind the alleged operation be established and those responsible brought to book.
Siddaramaiah has obtained an injunction from a court against airing or telecasting a defamatory video, which was posted on a social media site.
Based on Siddaramaiah’s complaint, police detained a few JD(S) workers for posting the defamatory video.
The Union minister has been alleging that police were targeting the wrong people while shielding the main culprits who made the video.
Kumaraswamy alleged that the government could be extending indirect support to the accused and questioned the circumstances surrounding the investigation.
He warned that the JD(S) would not remain silent if the authorities helped the key accused secure anticipatory bail.
“You (Congress leaders) are the ones trying to destroy the Congress by tarnishing Siddaramaiah’s reputation, not us,” Kumaraswamy said.
