Ranchi, Oct 16 Jharkhand is set to host its maiden National Forestry Congress in Ranchi from December 10, and the conference will feature 12 thematic areas including biodiversity conservation, agroforestry and restoration of mining-affected lands, a senior official said on Friday.

To unveil the roadmap for the three-day event, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Sanjiv Kumar launched an official brochure and inaugurated a dedicated web portal at Van Bhawan here.

“Hosting the National Forestry Congress 2026 is a matter of immense pride for Jharkhand. This national platform will chart a new course for the sustainable management of our nation’s natural wealth by strengthening forest conservation, biodiversity protection, climate adaptation, and the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities,” he said.

The conference is being organised under the scientific guidance of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), aligning forest governance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and India’s international commitments under the Paris Agreement, Kumar said.

The event will bring together leading forest administrators, policymakers, research scientists, ecologists, and academicians from across the country.

Discussions will centre around 12 core thematic areas including forest genetics and tree improvement, silviculture and forest management, biodiversity conservation and management, agroforestry and farm forestry, ecological restoration of mining-affected and degraded lands, climate change and carbon forestry.
