New Delhi, Oct 21 Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil on Wednesday reviewed the functioning of the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) and the National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC), and directed officials to strengthen research capabilities and data management systems.
During the review of the functioning of the CSMRS, the minister directed officials to enhance the institute’s efficiency, strengthen its research capabilities and expand its scope of work to make its role in water resources projects more effective and relevant.
“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, strengthening institutions through research, innovation and modern technology is an important step towards realising the resolve of Viksit Bharat,” Patil said in a post on X.
The CSMRS conducts field and laboratory investigations and research in geotechnical engineering, concrete technology, construction materials and associated environmental issues.
It also provides technical consultancy for water resources and infrastructure projects and undertakes safety evaluations of existing hydraulic structures and quality control of construction in river valley projects.
Reviewing the functioning of the NWIC, Patil stressed the importance of data collection and scientific analysis.
“Accurate and reliable data collection and its scientific analysis are extremely important for effective management of water resources. This assists in better and fact-based decision-making for water conservation, assessment of water availability, and future planning,” he said in a post on X.
He directed officials to further strengthen systems for data collection, integration and analysis and enhance the NWIC’s effectiveness through the use of modern technology.
Patil said reliable data and scientific analysis help in making better and fact-based decisions for water conservation, assessment of water availability and future planning.
“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are committed to ensuring water security and realising the resolve of Viksit Bharat through modern technology and data-driven decisions,” he said.
The NWIC serves as a central repository of nationwide water resources data and provides a single-window source of water-related information to support assessment, planning and integrated management of water resources.
