Shimla, Oct 15 BJP leader Sudhir Sharma on Thursday attacked the Congress, alleging that the carving of new districts was an attempt to distract the public from seeking accountability.
The Dharamshala MLA made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Hamir Sangam, a Hamirpur Students Association event held at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
Sharma said that instead of creating more districts and more administrative offices, the government should strengthen the existing administrative machinery.
“Once the discussion about new districts gains momentum, people across different regions would become occupied with questions about which areas would be included in a new district, where the district headquarters would be established and how existing administrative boundaries would change,” he said, trying to explain the supposed futility of the exercise.
“The government has found a way to keep the people engaged in this debate for the next six months,” Sharma said.
