Gurugram, Oct 23 The Haryana Food and Drugs Administration has raided the premises of a food brand in Gurugram and flagged nine food products for suspected misbranding, officials said on Friday.
A team of FDA officials on Thursday raided the premises of M/s Midvision Private Limited located at Fazilpur Jharsa, which markets products under the brand name ‘Miduty’ through its website, www.miduty.in.
The raid was conducted to examine the regulatory compliance of the company’s food products and cosmetics, particularly the nature, presentation and substantiation of health-related claims made on its product-selling website, the officials said.
According to an official statement, the FDA team examined product descriptions, promotional material and health-related claims displayed on the company’s website.
It was found that certain products were promoted with claims relating to relief from nerve and joint pain, management of constipation, improvement in lung function, liver detoxification, blood sugar control, reduction of skin pigmentation and other health benefits.
“During the proceedings, nine food products were identified as suspected of misbranding, which have been sent for further regulatory examination. The matter is being examined under the applicable provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the rules and regulations framed thereunder, and other relevant laws.
“Identification of products for further examination is part of the ongoing regulatory process. A show-cause notice will be issued to the firm, providing it a reasonable opportunity to explain its position and submit supporting evidence and documents. Further action will be taken in accordance with law after due consideration of the firm’s response, and the findings of the investigation,” drugs control officer Amandeep Chauhan said.
The FDA team has collected nine food samples and nine cosmetic samples for testing and analysis.
The FDA is also examining concerns relating to the supply of nutraceuticals and health supplement products to private hospitals at allegedly exorbitant prices, Chauhan said.
