Gurugram, Oct 19 The Gurugram Traffic Police on Monday impounded a motorcycle with 17 pending challans totalling Rs 1.79 lakh, officials said.

The two-wheeler was seized during a routine vehicle checking drive near the Maruti Kunj T-point on the outskirts of the city.

According to senior traffic police officials, the action is part of an ongoing intensified crackdown against repeat traffic offenders and motorists with long-pending fines.

A team led by Zonal Officer Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramprakash intercepted the motorcycle on Monday. When asked to produce ownership and statutory papers, the rider failed to present any valid documentation, police said.

“Upon digital verification of the registration data, a total of 17 pending challans under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, were found registered against the vehicle, carrying a cumulative fine of Rs 1,79,000,” a senior official stated.

The pending violations included driving without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, riding without a helmet, and several other moving violations. The motorcycle was subsequently impounded under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The Gurugram Traffic Police has issued an advisory urging all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules, carry mandatory documents including valid vehicle insurance and PUC certificates, and clear pending dues online to avoid strict penal action.
