Medininagar, Oct 21 An elderly man was hacked to death with a sharp-edged weapon on suspicion of practising witchcraft in Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Wednesday, police said.

The incident took place in Mangradih village within Naudiha Bazar police station limits.

The victim, identified as Sitaram (60), was a resident of Kauriya village under Bishrampur police station limits and had been living at his in-laws’ house in Mangradih for nearly 40 years, a senior police officer said.

“The accused have been identified as Promad and Sonu. Both are brothers and have been absconding after committing the crime. They killed Sitaram following the death of their brother during treatment at a hospital in Ranchi on Tuesday night. They suspected that their brother had died due to the victim’s alleged practice of occult rituals,” Naudiha Bazar police station in-charge Neeraj Kumar said.

The victim’s body has been sent to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) for post-mortem examination, he said.

Raids were being conducted to apprehend the accused, Kumar added.
