Jaipur, Oct 19 Congress’s Rajasthan chief Govind Singh Dotasra on Monday went to the commissionerate here with NSUI leader Ritu Barala, demanding an FIR against a woman constable who allegedly beat Barala during a protest in Delhi.
The move came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asked Dotasra to pursue legal action in Rajasthan.
Dotasra and other Congress leaders first visited the Moti Dungri Police Station, where a complaint was received, but no FIR was filed.
Disappointed, the delegation approached the commissionerate, where Dotasra spoke to a senior police officer on the phone, seeking the FIR.
Meanwhile, a large number of Congress workers gathered outside, following which its main gate was closed.
A Congress spokesperson said the leaders would not leave until the police register a case.
Dotasra said that the law provides for registration of a Zero FIR even when an offence occurred outside the jurisdiction of a police station.
A similar FIR had already been registered in another state, he said.
Dotasra said the Congress would approach the Director General of Police if the matter was not resolved at the commissionerate.
Rahul Gandhi has accused the Delhi Police of assaulting student protesters and refusing to register an FIR against its personnel.
In a social media post on October 16, Gandhi said two women, Athira from Kerala and Ritu Barala from Rajasthan, were beaten by the police in the national capital.
Barala, an NSUI leader, alleged that Delhi Police woman constable Chanchal Yadav assaulted her inside a bus carrying detained protesters on October 13.
She alleged that the constable grabbed her by the neck, pushed her onto a seat, scratched her face, and slapped her.
The NSUI, a Congress affiliate, was protesting near the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities.
