New Delhi, Oct 21 The East Bengal Displaced Persons Association of Chittaranjan Park raised concerns on Wednesday about a water shortage at Astha Kunj pond during the Durga idol immersion.

They also criticised inadequate facilities in the area, including poor lighting and insufficient washroom access.

A senior government officer denied the allegations, stating the immersion process was conducted on Tuesday in accordance with regulations and that respect for traditions and rituals was being upheld.

He said no such complaint regarding any shortage of water or removal of idols had been received.

Asim Das, vice-president of the association, said that the water shortage hindered the immersion process, alleging that some idols were subsequently removed from the pond using cranes, which led to damage.

“Durga Puja is a very auspicious festival for us, and we have a lot of sentiments attached to it. Seeing our goddess idols being taken out after immersion has hurt our sentiments,” Das said.

He also raised concerns over the lack of adequate lighting, drinking water, and washroom facilities in Chittaranjan Park during the festival.

AAP Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj also flagged the water shortage, saying hundreds of people were waiting at the CR Park Mela Ground for the Delhi Jal Board to provide water for Durga idol immersion.

In a social media post, Bharadwaj alleged that men, women, and children had been waiting at the venue around 7.30 pm on Tuesday for the water to arrive.
