New Delhi, Oct 19 Seven watchtowers will be constructed inside the Delhi Assembly complex to bolster its security, Speaker Vijender Gupta said on Monday.
The fortification comes in the wake of a security lapse in April, when an unidentified car breached the Legislative Assembly premises.
“A dedicated patrolling track is being developed for the CRPF to facilitate boundary-to-boundary patrolling around the Assembly premises. Approximately 70 per cent of the work has been completed,” Gupta said.
The construction of one watchtower is over, and seven more are slated to come up.
The towers will be erected across the front and rear sides of the assembly complex, and behind the reception, to strengthen perimeter surveillance.
“One watchtower has been completed. CRPF personnel will be deployed at these towers to maintain vigilant surveillance of the premises, monitor vulnerable areas, and facilitate a prompt response to any suspicious activity,” the speaker said in a statement.
The assembly premises currently have about 120 CCTV cameras.
The speaker said that the Delhi Police has been requested to identify dark spots and vulnerable locations where cameras can be installed.
