Kolkata, Oct 19 The CPI(M) has moved the Calcutta High Court, alleging that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and police attempted to remove a temporary bookstall set up by the party in Jadavpur during the Durga Puja festivities.
The matter will be mentioned before the HC’s vacation bench on October 22, seeking an urgent hearing of the petition, the party’s lawyer, Shamim Ahmed, said on Monday.
Ahmed said the petition sought directions to restrain the KMC and police from taking action to remove the bookstall.
The CPI(M) alleged that the temporary bookstall was targeted on Saturday over the issue of permission, claiming that its application to set it up had not been considered by the authorities concerned.
The party said it and other Left parties had been setting up bookstalls near Durga Puja pandals at several places across West Bengal for decades.
