Raipur, Oct 21 Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday said the state’s decisive success against Maoism was a result of the indomitable courage, valour, dedication and supreme sacrifice of the police and security personnel.
Addressing a Police Commemoration Day parade on the premises of the 4th Battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force here in Mana, Sai said a new atmosphere of peace, security and trust have emerged in Bastar and other remote areas of the state, which had been affected by Maoist violence and fear for decades.
The sacrifice of the martyrs would continue to guide the state and strengthen its resolve to build a developed Chhattisgarh, he said.
Sai said Police Commemoration Day is not merely about paying tributes to martyrs but also about resolving to carry forward their ideals, dedication to duty and tradition of service to the nation.
The CM recalled that on October 21, 1959, Indian police personnel deployed along the India-Tibet border in Ladakh had bravely confronted a large contingent of Chinese troops, in which 10 personnel made the supreme sacrifice.
Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on this date in their memory, he said.
The day also provides an opportunity to express gratitude to all police and security personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, according to him.
He said this year’s Police Commemoration Day held special significance for Chhattisgarh, which has achieved a historic milestone in its long struggle against Maoism, paving the way for peace, security and development.
The contribution of the Chhattisgarh Police, District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters and central armed police forces in this achievement was unforgettable, he said.
The personnel have fought Maoism without regard for their own lives amid dense forests, difficult terrain and extremely challenging conditions.
Their courage and valour had ensured decisive success against the menace, Sai said, adding that the sacrifice of the personnel would be etched in golden letters in the state’s history.
He credited the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for helping realise the resolve to eliminate Maoism.
Coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state, coupled with the courage of security personnel, had created a new atmosphere of peace and trust in Bastar, he said.
Sai said areas of Bastar once gripped by violence and fear are now witnessing a new phase of development, with roads, electricity, education, healthcare, drinking water and communication facilities expanding rapidly.
Government schemes and services are reaching remote villages, while people’s faith in the democratic system and administration gained strength, he said.
Schemes such as Niyad Nellanar, PM-JANMAN and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan are helping expand basic amenities in remote and underserved tribal areas, he added.
The state government has been working continuously to equip police and security forces with modern technology and resources, provide better training, and ensure the welfare of personnel and their families, Sai said.
Sai also visited Shaheed Vatika at Rajiv Smriti Van in Raipur on the occasion and paid floral tributes at the Amar Jawan Stambh to the brave personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
