Kolkata, Oct 15 The Calcutta High Court on Thursday rejected an anticipatory bail prayer of Indranil Sen, who served as tourism minister in the previous TMC government, in connection with a cheating case relating to the city’s Durga Puja festival.
Sen, also a singer, was accused of commercialising Durga Puja by selling high-priced “preview show” tickets.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh rejected the anticipatory bail prayer of Sen in connection with a criminal case registered against him at Bowbazar police station in Kolkata.
It was alleged that money was collected from the public through an organisation named “MassArt” by falsely claiming that it was a UNESCO-sponsored entity.
The court, however, granted him pre-arrest bail in connection with another case registered at Chandannagar police station in Hooghly district.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also questioned Sen in connection with financial transactions related to “MassArt”.
The central agency conducted raids at several locations linked to Sen on September 30 in connection with its inquiry into alleged monetary transactions by selling tickets for preview shows for visiting popular Durga Puja pandals in the city.
