Gurugram, Oct 21 Actor and Congress leader Raj Babbar on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP governments at the Centre and in Haryana, saying that they have done nothing but ruin Gurugram.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress office in Kaman Sarai here, he alleged that despite being called the Millennium City, Gurugram lacks even the most basic amenities.
“Gurugram generates thousands of crores of rupees in revenue for the government, but what has the city received in return? Mountains of trash, overflowing sewers, and a city that gets submerged in waterlogging with every spell of rain. The BJP government has turned Gurugram into a ‘smart city’ only in its advertisements; on the ground, the situation has gone from bad to worse,” said Babbar, who had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Gurugram seat.
He alleged that the BJP government has only made tall claims when it comes to development, which were forgotten later.
“In its 12 years of governance, the BJP government cannot even point to 12 achievements. It is operating on a policy of ‘rushing ahead while leaving everything else behind’, which is not in public interest,” he said.
Earlier, district president (urban) Pankaj Dawar, rural president Vardhan Yadav, and other Congress workers welcomed the former Lok Sabha MP on his arrival in the city.
Babbar alleged that the Haryana government is operating like a liquor mafia; liquor shops have been opened in every neighbourhood, while there is no concrete plan for education or healthcare, no employment opportunities for the youth, and no safety for women.
Responding to a query on the delay in construction of a proposed hospital, Babbar said the government’s intentions over the project are questionable.
“The residents of Gurugram desire change, and it is the Congress that can bring about that change,” he said.
