Jammu, Oct 16 The BJP on Friday accused the National Conference-led government in Jammu and Kashmir of failing to fulfil its electoral promises and falling short on governance and development during its two years in office.
Jammu and Kashmir BJP president and MP Sat Sharma said the government’s performance over the past two years had largely been limited to transfers, promotions and elevations, alleging that little progress had been made on the commitments outlined in the National Conference manifesto.
“National Conference-led government in Jammu and Kashmir failed to fulfil its electoral promises and fell short on governance and development during its two years in office,” he told reporters here.
He said people faced shortages of electricity and drinking water during the summer despite funds being made available by the Centre for development and welfare schemes.
“There has been a shortfall in development work. There has been no shortage of funds coming from the Centre, but despite that, the Jammu and Kashmir government has fallen significantly short,” Sharma said.
Addressing a separate press conference here, BJP spokespersons Dr Tahir Chowdhary, G L Raina and Rajni Sethi levelled allegations against the Omar Abdullah-led government and demanded accountability.
Chowdhary accused the government of raising public expectations through ambitious electoral promises but failing to deliver tangible results, particularly in employment, the promised 200 units of free electricity and welfare measures.
He demanded a transparent account of the commitments made to the youth, women and economically weaker sections, saying people deserved answers on the status of the promises.
Raina sought a comprehensive two-year report card from the government, questioning the delay in holding Panchayat, Block Development Council (BDC) and District Development Council (DDC) elections.
He said prolonged delays in grassroots elections were weakening democratic institutions and also questioned the government’s progress on employment generation and electricity-related commitments.
Rajni Sethi highlighted what she described as gaps between the NC manifesto and its implementation, particularly regarding women’s welfare.
She sought clarity on the status of the promised monthly assistance of Rs 5,000 to female heads of poor families, free public transport for women, 12 free LPG cylinders, enhanced marriage assistance and free education for girls up to university level.
Sethi also questioned the progress on support for women entrepreneurs and the delay in constituting a Women’s Commission in Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP leaders jointly demanded a transparent, fact-based and verifiable report card detailing the status of major manifesto promises, the number of beneficiaries covered and timelines for fulfilling pending commitments.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC)-led coalition government, headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, officially completed two years in office on October 16, 2026, after coming to power on October 16, 2024.
