Bijnor (UP), Oct 23 In a unique initiative, a municipal council in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district has made it mandatory to include a bird nest in the building plan for any new house, an official said on Friday.

The initiative aims to bring back the chirping of sparrows, a species that is increasingly disappearing from residential courtyards.

Vijendra Singh Pal, Executive Officer of the Seohara Municipal Council in Bijnor district, said that the sparrow is an important part of the environment.

He emphasised the need to raise awareness for its conservation and to provide safe nesting sites.

Pal added that there is a need to foster public participation in sparrow conservation and environmental protection, and to encourage people to create bird-friendly habitats.

According to the municipal council’s new directive, applicants seeking approval for building plans within the municipal area must now incorporate at least one nest for sparrows in their homes.
