Bhubaneswar, Oct 21 Durga Puja committees in Bhubaneswar will face criminal cases if they play high-decibel DJ music during idol immersion processions, police said on Wednesday.
Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M said DJ music was prohibited during the processions and committees had been asked to use only traditional musical instruments.
“Police personnel will be deployed at the starting points of the processions to ensure compliance with the ban,” he said.
Six temporary ponds have been created at different locations in the city for the immersion of Durga idols, while 48 platoons of police personnel will be deployed for security, the DCP said.
Meanwhile, Ravanpodi, or the burning of Ravana’s effigy, will be organised at nine locations in Bhubaneswar on the occasion of Vijayadashami. Large crowds are expected to gather to witness the event and fireworks display.
Adequate police personnel and fire service staff will be deployed at the venues, the officer said.
Traffic arrangements have also been made to ensure smooth vehicular movement, and the entry of heavy vehicles into the city has been restricted, he said.
Meanwhile, IGP (Central Range) Satyajit Naik visited Durga Puja pandals in Khurda and reviewed security arrangements and preparedness for the idol immersion.
He inspected crowd management, traffic regulation, safety at immersion points and coordination among stakeholders.
He also interacted with puja committee members and field officers and issued instructions for the safe and peaceful conduct of the immersion.
