New Delhi, Oct 22 The air quality in the national capital was recorded in the ‘poor’ category on Thursday, with the AQI settling at 226.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’ and 401-500 ‘severe’.
Delhi recorded its first ‘poor’ air quality day of the season on Wednesday, with the AQI touching a 100-day high of 245, prompting the Centre to invoke Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the capital and NCR.
The deterioration came after Dussehra, when Ravan effigies packed with firecrackers were burnt at several locations across Delhi and NCR. However, no direct link has been established between the celebrations and the worsening of the air quality.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly clear sky for the day on Thursday.
The minimum temperature settled at 19.7 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees above the season’s average, while the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 32 degrees Celsius.
The relative humidity was recorded at 89 per cent at 8.30 am, the IMD said.
