Authorities have warned of a possible storm surge that could inundate vulnerable coastal villages and low-lying areas.
According to the information provided, IMD scientists have warned that the storm surge could affect areas extending up to 100 km on either side of the expected landfall zone.
A storm surge occurs when strong cyclone winds push seawater towards the coast, potentially causing flooding in low-lying areas.
Residents in vulnerable coastal locations have been advised to move to designated relief centres and follow evacuation instructions issued by local authorities.
Heavy Rain and Rough Seas Expected
The approaching cyclone has made the sea increasingly rough along the Andhra Pradesh coast. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are also expected in affected areas.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until conditions improve. People should avoid beaches, coastal stretches and other areas exposed to strong winds and high waves.
Educational institutions in vulnerable coastal districts have reportedly been given advance holidays as a precautionary measure.
NDRF and SDRF Teams on Alert
The state government has mobilised disaster response teams to manage the situation. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other emergency services have been deployed in coastal districts.
Authorities are also moving residents from vulnerable and flood-prone areas to safer locations and designated relief centres.
People are advised to:
- Follow official weather alerts and local administration instructions.
- Move to safer locations if evacuation is ordered.
- Stay indoors and away from trees, electric poles and weak structures during strong winds.
- Avoid travelling through flooded roads and coastal areas.
- Keep essential medicines, drinking water, food, flashlights and emergency supplies ready.
- Follow updates from the IMD and state disaster management authorities.
