Chennai, Oct 26 Former state minister P K Sekar Babu and DMK members engaged in a heated argument with the police here on Monday allegedly for bringing arrested party leader Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi to the police station for enquiry.

As the DMK members suddenly turned up in large numbers and argued with the police demanding they be allowed to meet Mahesh, a former school education minister, the police declined saying they were following due procedures.

The DMK members strongly protested saying the police did not allow even lawyers to accompany or meet Mahesh during the arrest process.

Babu alleged that authorities took Mahesh to the hospital and then the police commissioner’s office instead of directly taking to the court to be produced despite a judge waiting for the proceedings. Terming the arrest as a “political vendetta,” he told reporters that Anbil Mahesh had already cooperated with a seven-hour questioning by the police.

Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi was arrested on Monday by the Chennai Central Crime Branch (CCB) in connection with a Rs 100 crore ‘scam’ involving the alleged collection of money from private school managements.

After questioning, Mahesh Poyyamozhi was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for a medical examination where also Sekar Babu had gone to meet him.
