Aizawl, Oct 26 Mizoram on Monday joined the nationwide observance of Vigilance Awareness Week, with government employees across the state taking an integrity pledge and reaffirming their commitment to probity and a corruption-free administration.
The week-long observance, from October 26 to November 1, began with government employees taking the pledge at 11 am, officials said.
Officers and staff of the Mizoram Secretariat took the pledge in the courtyard of the Secretariat building under the leadership of Chief Secretary in-charge and Principal Secretary, General Administration Department, Sudhir Kumar, they said.
Similar programmes were held at government offices across the state.
The Vigilance Awareness Week has been observed annually since 2000 under the initiative of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), around October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first deputy prime minister and home minister.
The theme for this year is “Probity for Prosperity.”
The Mizoram Vigilance Department has lined up a series of programmes during the week, including a workshop at Vanapa Hall here on October 28, which will be attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
The department said that it would be only the second major Vigilance Awareness programme in the state to be held with the participation of the chief minister.
Awareness Gram Sabhas are scheduled to be held on October 31.
The department is also organising a flyer-making competition on the theme “Probity for Prosperity”, and a walkathon from Vanapa Hall to Millennium Centre to be led by the Chief Minister is also planned as part of the week-long campaign, officials said.
