Malappuram(Keralam), Oct 26 A 37-year-old school teacher was killed in a road accident near here a day ago when the two-wheeler he was riding was allegedly hit head-on by a car driven by an intoxicated man, police said on Monday.
The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Monday, an officer of near Vengara police station said.
The accused — Akbar Ali (34) — was booked for the offences under sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, it said.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at around 9 pm when the victim — Sharafudheen A K — and his friend Habeeb were going on the two-wheeler and the car driven by Ali, on the wrong side of the road, collided head-on with them near Vengara, police said.
“Preliminary investigation found that Ali was drunk at the time of the incident. The blood analysis reports are awaited,” the officer said.
Sharafudheen later succumbed to the grievous injuries suffered in the incident, while his friend, who also suffered serious injuries, is currently hospitalised, police said.
