Raipur, Oct 26 BJP in-charge for Chhattisgarh Smriti Irani on Monday held a series of meetings with party leaders in Raipur and emphasised the need for direct engagement with people, saying social media cannot replace grassroots contact.

The meetings were held with party leaders, legislators, MPs and ministers at Kushabhau Thakre Parisar, the party’s state headquarters in Raipur, to discuss organisational and political strategies, on the second day of her two-day visit, a statement by the state BJP said.

It was Irani’s first visit to the state after being appointed the BJP’s Chhattisgarh in-charge.

“Today is the age of technology. Communication through social media is necessary, but it can never be a substitute for ground-level connect,” the statement quoted Irani as saying in the meetings.

She called for intensive outreach to people across villages and localities, from Bastar to Surguja regions, and urged party workers to stand by people in their joys and sorrows, listen to their concerns and ensure their resolution, it said.

When a party worker sits among people with simplicity and without formality, the organisation becomes a family, she said.

Irani said the people’s trust in the BJP has added a major responsibility.

She urged party workers to preserve that trust and strengthen the organisation at every polling booth.

Irani also expressed confidence that the party would form the government in Chhattisgarh again through the collective efforts of its leaders and workers.

Discipline had been a defining feature of the party’s journey, she said, adding that while positions and responsibilities changed, party workers remained the organisation’s permanent strength.

She also stressed that simplicity should remain an enduring feature of public life.

Irani held separate meetings with party MLAs, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, the state cabinet and the BJP’s core group, the statement said.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, state BJP president Kiran Deo, state co-in-charge Siddharth Shambhu, state organisation general secretary Karmveer Singh, ministers, MPs, MLAs and members of the party’s core group attended the meetings, it said.
