Hyderabad, Oct 26 The prolonged wait of a family in Jagtial district of Telangana for the return of the mortal remains of its breadwinner, who died during a military strike in Ukraine, is now coming to an end.
The body of Avilala Sudarshan Goud, a native of Hasanabad village in Jagtial mandal, is expected to arrive at the RGI Airport here in the early hours of October 31 following the intervention of the Telangana government.
Sudarshan Goud, who was employed by a company as a Reinforced Cement Concrete-related worker in Ukraine, died in a Russian missile strike on September 1.
The necessary arrangements for repatriation of the body have been initiated through coordination among the CM Pravasi Prajavani team, senior government officials, and the Embassy of India.
Mandha Bheem Reddy, Vice Chairman of the Telangana Government’s NRI Advisory Committee, told PTI on Monday that the expenditure incurred for transporting the mortal remains to India was spent from the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) of the Embassy of India in Ukraine.
Bhargavi, wife of the deceased, recently approached CM Pravasi Prajavani (people’s grievance redressal office) in Hyderabad, requesting assistance in bringing her husband’s mortal remains back to their native village.
The family of Sudarshan Goud belongs to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
Jagtial MLA Makunuri Sanjay Kumar and Telangana Minister for SC Development Adluri Lakshman Kumar urged the state government to intervene in the matter, and the government requested the Embassy of India in Ukraine to take necessary steps to facilitate the repatriation.
Bheem Reddy said Ahmad Nadeem, Principal Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, sent an urgent communication on October 24 to Anjani Kumar, India’s Ambassador to Ukraine, requesting the necessary assistance.
As air travel remains restricted in Ukrainian airspace, the coffin carrying the mortal remains will be transported by road from Ukraine to Poland.
From there, the remains will be flown by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines from Warsaw, Poland, to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and subsequently to Hyderabad.
The air journey is scheduled to commence on October 29, and the mortal remains are expected to arrive at the Hyderabad airport in the early hours of October 31, Bheem Reddy said.
Arrangements will then be made to transport the mortal remains to the deceased’s native village for the final rites.
The process of obtaining permission for transporting the mortal remains was reportedly delayed due to the ongoing investigation into the missile strike, for which a criminal case has been registered, he added.
