Jaipur, Oct 26 RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Monday urged people to come forward to help the needy and said those who have benefitted from society’s support should also contribute to the welfare of others.
Addressing the annual function of Seva Bharati Samiti, Jaipur, Hosabale said the organisation’s objective was not merely to provide assistance but to empower people so that they could eventually help others.
“Serving humanity is serving God,” he said, adding that society had the resources and willingness to help those in need, but greater efforts were required to encourage people to participate in social service.
Hosabale said economically and socially disadvantaged neighbourhoods should be referred to as “Seva Bastis” (service settlements) rather than slums.
He said residents of such areas needed support in education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, safety and self-respect.
“Service is not limited to financial assistance or providing education and healthcare facilities. It also means enabling people to live with dignity and self-respect,” he said.
The RSS leader said Seva Bharati-affiliated organisations were carrying out around 1.5 lakh social service activities across the country.
He urged people not to limit their contribution to financial donations but to actively participate in welfare activities.
Hosabale said RSS volunteers had been engaged in social service since the organisation’s early years and Seva Bharati was established to organise these efforts and involve wider sections of society.
He also encouraged people to visit tribal areas to better understand the lives and needs of local communities.
During the programme, Seva Bharati Samiti’s website and mobile application were launched, while a newly constructed building of the Yashoda Bal Seva Kendra in Jaipur’s Vishwakarma Industrial Area was inaugurated virtually.
