Shivamogga (Karnataka), Oct 26 BJP Karnataka president B Y Vijayendra on Monday demanded that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge publicly apologise to the people of the country for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his father, accusing him of making the comments out of frustration.
Kharge made the remarks while addressing a function in Patna to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister, Krishna Singh. Responding to a heckler who shouted that Modi would not go, Kharge retorted from the dais, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega, baap bhi jayega” (Even Modi’s father will have to go).
Speaking to reporters here, Vijayendra said Kharge, who belongs to Karnataka, had made irresponsible remarks and had also exposed the mindset of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“Why are you so frustrated?” Vijayendra asked as he claimed that the Congress leaders were unable to accept Modi becoming Prime Minister for a third consecutive term.
Modi’s elevation to the post was neither a favour from the Congress nor from Rahul Gandhi or Kharge, he said, adding that Modi, who belongs to an extremely backward community, had successfully led the country.
Vijayendra accused the Congress of questioning Electronic Voting Machines, alleging vote theft and targeting the Election Commission and the Supreme Court because it was unable to tolerate Modi’s growing popularity.
“If they have the strength, they should try to win the people’s confidence and come to power,” he said
The Shikaripura MLA claimed that recent surveys indicated that the BJP-led NDA would return to power and Modi would become Prime Minister for a fourth term.
Demanding that Kharge respect the dignity of his position and his experience, Vijayendra said he should immediately apologise publicly to the people of the country.
The BJP has organised a major protest in Bengaluru and protests would be held across the country, he said.
Vijayendra also said the Congress should examine why people had lost faith in the party and Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the Gandhi family appeared to believe that nobody outside it was qualified to become Prime Minister.
Warning the Congress of a further electoral setback, he said, “if the party had won 50 Lok Sabha seats in the previous election, winning even five seats in the next one could prove difficult. The people would decide its fate.
