Ranchi, Oct 24 BJP chief Nitin Nabin on Saturday attacked the Congress, alleging that the party never followed the Constitution and ruled the country as per its wishes.

Nabin, who is on a three-day visit to Jharkhand, addressed party workers and leaders at the inaugural session of the BJP’s state executive committee meeting here.

“Today, in the country, there is an attempt to challenge constitutional institutions and democracy. Those who swear by the Constitution have shredded it to pieces.

“From imposing Emergency to President’s Rule in many states, Congress never followed the Constitution and ruled the country as per its wishes. Today, those who tried to finish off democracy are lecturing us about it,” he added.

Nabin accused the Congress of trying to create anarchy in the country.

“For this, they are getting support not only from within the country but also from foreign powers. Rahul Gandhi now questions the country’s constitutional institutions, but he never questioned them when the Congress was in power,” he added.

Nabin said that though 60 days had been provided for claims and objections after the publication of electoral rolls in Bihar post-SIR, not a single complaint had been filed by Congress workers.

Rahul Gandhi had understood that he would not succeed in the Bihar assembly elections by raising the allegation of ‘vote-theft’, and people gave him a befitting reply, he said.

“Now, he (Rahul Gandhi) is raising the issue after six months. He is not concerned about protecting the votes of the citizens but those of infiltrators… We must firmly stand against this,” Nabin said.

“Rahul Gandhi is working like a tool-kit operated from abroad. The opposition and the CJP have been exposed as their only aim was to destabilise the government, like in Bangladesh and other countries. Congress leaders said they would ensure regime change, but it is not so easy as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has reached every house of the country,” he said.

Nabin also urged BJP workers to fight against “anarchy prevailing in Jharkhand”.

“When thousands of students and aspirants agitated in Ranchi against irregularities in recruitment exams, not a single Congress leader raised his voice, but they sit in Delhi and talk about the issues of students and youth. During Congress rule, there was a mafia rule in medical examinations,” he alleged.

The BJP government changed that system and increased the number of medical seats across the country through NEET, which also brought transparency, he claimed.

“Therefore, I urge the state BJP leadership to continue fighting for the students who have been subjected to injustice. Fight for them from Parliament to the streets and if needed, in the courts as well,” he added.

He said the state government has to be cornered on such issues.

“Since policies and the intent of the state government are flawed, we have to rebuild the party in the state with new energy… The day BJP workers and leaders strengthen their resolve, Jharkhand will be ours,” he added.

“Jharkhand was formed during the prime ministership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. BJP built and nurtured it, and we alone can take it forward,” the party chief said.

All party workers should take issues raised at the two-day state executive committee meeting to the people, he added.

“There is rampant corruption in Jharkhand, and law and order has collapsed. If we take up these issues, people will stand with the party,” he said.

“It is our good fortune that we have been blessed with a leadership that has given direction to the party and the country. Recently, the party won the West Bengal elections under adverse conditions,” he added.

Nabin, in a social media post, later said that he addressed the meeting of the ‘Jharkhand Pradesh Karyasamiti’ in Ranchi, and that BJP workers, under the PM’s leadership, were committed to the state’s development and the preservation of its cultural heritage.

“Every BJP worker is continuously working with dedication at the booth-level to strengthen the organisation and ensure that the benefits of the central government’s public welfare schemes reach the last person in society,” he said.

Sita Soren, senior BJP leader and sister-in-law of CM Hemant Soren, said that Nabin also gave guidelines on the by-election to Giridih assembly seat.

“Our candidate for the by-election is almost finalised. The official announcement will be made later,” she said on the sidelines of the event.

Giridih seat fell vacant after the death of JMM leader and state minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu on September 5.

“He also guided us on what to do in the coming days, how to work together to strengthen the organisation and how to tackle factionalism,” she said.

Congress leader Rajesh Thakur, meanwhile, said the BJP is scared of Rahul Gandhi.

“The BJP chief’s statements show his immaturity. He is downgrading his post as party chief by making such remarks. I want to ask the BJP that if they have so much evidence against our leader, why is their government not doing anything?” the former Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) president said.

State Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said the BJP’s “vote theft” and Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft have been exposed.

“Out of frustration, they have started attacking Rahul Gandhi. The CEC’s removal is our aim and the party’s stand is very clear on this issue: we will continue protesting until Gyanesh Kumar resigns,” he said.

This was the first time that Nabin addressed the state executive meeting after the central leadership recently revamped the state BJP unit by appointing new office-bearers and organisational in-charges.

Before addressing the executive meeting, he held a meeting with all district presidents and in-charges.

Nabin, on the last day of his visit, will on Sunday participate in scheduled organisational programmes and hold interactions with local party leaders and also listen to PM’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme with party workers.
