New Delhi, Oct 24 Amid allegations of irregularities, the Election Commission on Saturday ordered a repoll at three polling stations in the Agra Teachers’ Constituency of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

It also declared polling held on October 23 at the three polling stations void.

Repoll will be held on October 26.

In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, the commission ordered a fresh poll at polling stations 20, 21 and 26 to take place from 8 am to 4 pm on Monday.

The commission invoked Section 58A(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to declare the earlier poll void.

People involved in unlawful activities that may have caused the irregularities leading to the cancellation of the poll should not be deployed for the repoll, the commission said.

The Agra divisional commissioner has been asked to immediately fix responsibility for the incidents that necessitated the repoll, including the role of police and polling officials.

Article 171 of the Constitution deals with legislative councils, or Vidhan Parishad, and its composition.

Certain constituencies are kept aside for graduate and teacher voters.
