New Delhi, Oct 20 The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will deploy additional sanitation workers at major Ramlila grounds across the city to clear waste generated during Dussehra celebrations, with special cleaning drives planned for the morning after Ravana Dahan, officials said on Tuesday.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Standing Committee chairperson, Satya Sharma, directed officials to ensure timely garbage removal from the grounds and maintain cleanliness throughout the festival’s fairs.
“Additional sanitation workers should be deployed after Ravana Dahan events, and waste scattered across the grounds must be removed in a time-bound manner,” Sharma said, according to an official statement.
She said large crowds visiting the grounds during Dussehra fairs lead to significant waste accumulation, requiring regular cleaning during the events and special post-event cleanup drives.
Sharma has also directed officials to coordinate with Ramlila committees and resident welfare associations (RWAs) to organise cleanliness drives and encourage public participation in maintaining sanitation.
She said officials must also ensure cleanliness arrangements at venues hosting Ramlila-related programmes and Bharat Milap celebrations following Ravana Dahan, and directed them to monitor the arrangements regularly.
Vijayadashami, more commonly known as Dussehra, is a festival celebrated every year at the end of Durga Puja and Navaratri. The festival symbolises the triumph of good over evil.
People celebrate it across the country, with revellers coming out in large numbers to watch the burning of Ravana effigies, marking the culmination of festivities filled with rituals, songs, dance, and processions.
