New Delhi, Oct 15 The Civil Aviation Ministry is facilitating conversations with airlines and other stakeholders on addressing the challenge of high jet fuel prices and ensuring airfares remain reasonable, Union minister K Rammohan Naidu said on Thursday.

Prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), which account for around 40 per cent of an airline’s operating costs, have surged in recent months due to the West Asia conflict.

On whether there are plans to revive the ATF price stabilisation fund, Naidu said discussions are underway with airlines and that it is a challenging task given unstable jet fuel prices.

“We need support from the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) also… airlines also have to come up with a different plan.

“So, (civil aviation) ministry is trying to facilitate the conversation between the stakeholders,” the civil aviation minister said.

He also emphasised that the ministry wants the airfares to be reasonable during the festive season.

Naidu spoke with reporters on the sidelines of a function marking the 42nd Raising Day of Pawan Hans in the national capital.
