Ahmedabad, Oct 15 The Gujarat government has given approval to upgrade four district hospitals in Kheda, Mahisagar, Gir Somnath and Botad with state-of-the-art facilities, officials said on Thursday.

Brownfield medical colleges and hospitals will be constructed by upgrading the government hospitals, which will operate on public-private partnership (PPP) basis, stated an official release.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said the state government is determined to ensure citizens get world-class medical treatment in their own districts and that more specialist doctors are available in government hospitals.

“These medical colleges will result in the expansion of excellent and quality health services to rural and remote areas. The selected institutions will have to maintain all free facilities available to citizens. Besides, pregnant women will have to be provided complete free treatment for their children from 20 days to 1 year after delivery,” he said.

The minister also asked each of these institutes to provide at least 10 bed units for dialysis and free treatment for trauma and accident patients.

The implementation of this project will increase the number of medical education seats at the local level and public will get benefit of state-of-the-art health services, the minister further said.

“A new ‘Rogi Kalyan Samiti’ will be constituted under the chairmanship of the concerned collector for administration and planning of patient-oriented services,” stated the release.
