Kolkata, Oct 14 A special Cabinet meeting chaired by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday adopted a resolution marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service and his contribution to Bengali culture, language and heritage.
Adhikari also said the resolution recognised the prime minister’s contribution to the economic growth, industry, infrastructure and modernisation of the country as well as his welfare initiatives for the poor.
“We have unanimously adopted a resolution expressing our gratitude to the Prime Minister. The resolution will be printed in Bengali and English and sent to the Prime Minister’s Office,” he told reporters at the state secretariat.
After the meeting, Adhikari said the Narendra Modi government has given the Bengali language its due recognition.
In 2024, the Union Cabinet approved conferring the status of classical language to Bengali along with Marathi, Pali, Assamese and Prakrit.
Adhikari further cited the promotion of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s ‘Vande Mataram’ by the Union government, international recognition for Santiniketan and UNESCO recognition for Durga Puja.
“Vande Mataram has been taken to the highest national platform,” he said, referring to the 150th anniversary observance and the special parliamentary discussion on the national song.
The Bengal chief minister also referred to initiatives honouring Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the installation of the freedom fighter’s statue at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, and PM Modi’s visits to Belur Math.
He credited Modi with taking the Padma awards to the grassroots and said that “artists, writers and folk performers from Bengal had received national recognition”.
Adhikari also hailed the prime minister for his contribution to the development of the state and the country. “I pay my respects to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his contribution to the progress of West Bengal, Gujarat and India,” he said.
The chief minister also criticised the previous Trinamool Congress government, saying that it obstructed several Central welfare schemes. He went on to claim that despite the opposition from the TMC-led government in Bengal, PM Modi continued to support the state’s development.
