Gorakhpur (UP), Oct 16 A 56-year-old woman, who was declared dead at a private hospital, started coughing while her family was preparing for her last rites here, after which she was rushed to a medical college where she is undergoing treatment, according to her family.
Lalita Devi, wife of Shivmurat Yadav and a resident of Belwa Dakhili village under the Barhalganj police station limits, had been suffering from fever for a week. Her family initially took her to a private practitioner near Pidhani crossing for treatment.
Her condition deteriorated on Tuesday, following which she was admitted to a private hospital in Barhalganj. Doctors suspected a brain haemorrhage and advised the family to take her to Gorakhpur.
Her brother-in-law, Chandramauli Yadav, said, “Doctors at a private hospital in Gorakhpur declared her dead on Wednesday and asked the family to take her home.”
“After reaching the village, the family began preparations for her last rites. A bamboo bier had been arranged when the women in the family started performing the final rituals,” he said.
“As tulsi water was poured into Lalita Devi’s mouth, she suddenly began coughing, leaving the family members shocked,” he added.
The family immediately rushed her to the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, where she is currently undergoing treatment, according to the family.
The hospital is yet to issue an official statement on her medical condition or the circumstances in which she was declared dead.
