Agartala, Oct 14 Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday said the state government is committed to women’s empowerment and is in the process of recruiting 126 more assistant professors in degree colleges.
He was speaking at a programme organised by the Higher Education Department and the Youth Affairs and Sports Department at Matangini Auditorium of Agartala Women’s College, where appointment letters were distributed to 74 assistant professors, mostly women, and 10 youth organisers responsible for implementing grassroots youth development programmes.
At the programme, 30 scooters were also distributed to meritorious girl students under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana.
“Today, 30 scooters have been provided to meritorious students under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana. A total of 152 students in the academic year 2023-24 and 122 students in the financial year 2024-25 have benefited from the scheme. I sincerely congratulate all the students,” Saha said.
He said the initiative aims to encourage meritorious girl students to pursue higher education and become self-reliant, while the recruitment of assistant professors would strengthen higher education in the state.
“The government has made arrangements to reserve 33 per cent of seats for women in government jobs. It is trying to improve women’s quality of life through self-help groups. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also working in this direction. Because if women are strong, society will also be strong. Therefore, educating girls and making them skilled and self-reliant are among the priority areas of the state government,” he said.
Saha said the scheme was launched in 2025 to encourage meritorious students to pursue higher education by providing them with convenient transportation to college.
“The Finance Department has allocated Rs 1 crore every year for the scheme. Through such initiatives, students will be able to move towards self-reliance to a great extent,” he added.
