Jamshedpur, Oct 14 Tigress Sunaina gave birth to three tiger cubs at the Tata Steel Zoological Park here, zoo authorities said on Wednesday.

The sire, Rudra, was brought to the zoo from Gorewada Rescue Centre in Nagpur, Tata Steel said in a statement.

The announcement was made after the cubs completed the initial period of close monitoring and care, as per established veterinary protocol, it said.

“TSZP is delighted to announce the birth of three tiger cubs — two females and a male — born on September 23 to Sunaina,” it added.

Being a first-time mother, Sunaina inadvertently injured one of the female cubs. The zoo’s veterinary team promptly treated the cub’s skin wounds by suturing them.

The cub has since shown encouraging progress and weighs around 1.8 kg. She is currently considered out of immediate danger but remains under close veterinary observation.

The other two cubs are doing well. The male cub weighs around 2.9 kg, while the second female weighs approximately 2.53 kg, it said.

All three cubs are under continuous veterinary supervision, with their activities also being monitored through the zoo’s CCTV surveillance system.

Members of the public are encouraged to submit three suggested names — one for each cub — via WhatsApp or by message to +91 9438291637.

A panel constituted by the zoo will select the three best entries. The selected winners will be felicitated with complimentary zoo entry passes and a memento.
