Visakhapatnam, Oct 17 The South Coast Railway Zone has achieved an infrastructural milestone by fully converting Guntakal – Raichur section into Automatic Block Signalling (ABS).
It is part of a comprehensive safety and capacity enhancement initiative sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crores, said a railway press release on Saturday.
“In a monumental leap forward towards modernising railway infrastructure, enhancing safety, and expanding line capacity, South Coast Railway has successfully commissioned ABS,” it said.
This commissioning marks the successful conversion of the entire high-density Guntakal-Raichur corridor into a fully automated signalling section.
According to the railway zone, ABS was achieved along the crucial 28.112 Route Kilometres (56.224 Track kilometres) double-line stretch between Adoni, Isivi, Kuppagal, and Kosgi stations in Guntakal Division on October 16.
With this, South Coast Railway has achieved the key milestone of commissioning a cumulative 105 Route Kilometres of ABS across its network.
The newly commissioned 28.112 Rkm stretch, comprising Adoni-Isivi (6.64 Rkm), Isivi-Kuppagal (7.79 Rkm), and Kuppagal-Kosgi (13.68 Rkm), has been equipped with cutting-edge signalling and fail-safe safety infrastructure.
Advanced Dual Multi-Section Digital Axle Counters (Dual MSDAC of Frauscher make) featuring 178 detection points have been deployed across the three sections, the release further said.
The project involved the commissioning of 38 new mainline signals, 24 station semi-automatic signals, and five dedicated ABS huts.
To enhance level crossing safety, level crossing gate number 204 has been interlocked with the signalling network while modern approach locking and audio-visual approach warning systems have been commissioned at LC Gates 195, 199, 201, 204, and 205.
The signalling system is further reinforced with five state-of-the-art integrated power supply units for uninterrupted power, five advanced data loggers for real-time asset performance monitoring and diagnostic reporting, and 16 sets of Universal Fail-Safe Block Interfaces, alongside non-vital multiplexers, the press release added.
