Thane, Oct 17 Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said his party Shiv Sena will extend all possible assistance to drought-hit farmers and their families across the state.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Navratri festival at the DNC School ground in Dombivli, near Thane.
Shinde announced relief measures, including the distribution of sewing machines to women from drought-affected farming households to provide them with a sustainable livelihood. He said Shiv Sena will also offer financial support for the marriages of daughters from such families.
A fleet of trucks carrying ration kits will be dispatched to drought-affected areas during his party’s annual Dussehra rally, he said.
The organisers of the Navratri event said they have scaled down celebrations this time in view of the hardships faced by farmers.
The government has declared a drought in 305 of 358 talukas in the state due to deficient monsoon rain this year.
Shinde urged citizens and community leaders to join hands to offer financial assistance to distressed agricultural families. Several individuals, including Sena leaders, handed over relief cheques to the deputy CM at the event.
