Chennai, Oct 17 The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday commenced the sale of fine-variety rice at a highly subsidised rate of Rs 30 per kilogram through cooperative stores and Amudham outlets across the state, aiming to stabilise food inflation.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister P Venkataramanan and Cooperatives Minister V Gandhiraj launched the sale of the rice at the Kamadhenu Supermarket (TUCS) here. The subsidised rice will be sold through 201 cooperative stores and 49 Amudham outlets in the state.
The state government on Friday announced a series of market intervention measures to combat rising prices of essential commodities and ease the immediate financial burden on households.
