Chandigarh, Oct 18 Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon on Sunday appeared with a black turban, saying he would continue to wear it until the people involved in the killing of justice anti-drug crusader Parvinder Singh Jhota are brought to justice.
He said the gesture is against the Aam Aadmi Party government’s handling of law and order in the state.
“This black turban is not a piece of cloth, but it is a symbol of protest against the failure of the state government,” Dhillon said.
“The murder of our brave Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was fighting a war to save Punjab’s youth from drugs, is not just the loss of one young man; it is a blow to Punjab’s law and order system.
“To deliver justice to Jhota, starting today, I myself have donned a black turban and launched a struggle against the useless AAP government,” he said.
Dhillon said the Bharatiya Janata Party stands with the aggrieved family and will continue its protest.
The BJP leader, who visited Mansa on Saturday, appealed to the people to stand with it in protest against the AAP government by wearing black turbans and black dupattas and carrying black flags.
Known for raising his voice against the illegal sale of addictive substances at chemist shops, Jhota was shot in broad daylight inside a medical store at a busy marketplace in Mansa on October 13.
Ashwani Kumar, the store owner who opened fire on Jhota after he questioned him for selling addictive drugs to an elderly man, was taken into custody from Salasar in Rajasthan.
The incident, which took place while Jhota was hosting a Facebook Live, has triggered a political slugfest in Punjab, which goes to polls early next year.
