Pune, Oct 18 A 69-year-old man died after an autorickshaw brushed against him, causing him to fall into an eight- to 10-foot-deep pit dug by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for drainage work, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place near Chitra Chowk vegetable market in the Yerawada area around 12.30 pm on Saturday.
Pradeep Pardeshi was walking along the road when a passing autorickshaw brushed against him, causing him to lose his balance and plunge into the pit, senior inspector Yuvraj Nandre of Laxmi Nagar police station told PTI.
Drainage work by the PMC had been underway at the spot for the past 15 days, and barricades had been put up around the excavation, he said.
Pardeshi was taken to Shubhankar Hospital in Yerawada, where he died during treatment in the evening.
Police received a medico-legal case intimation early on Sunday concerning the incident, the official said.
“We made some inquiries, following which his relatives told us that they would come after the funeral and lodge a formal complaint,” Nandre said.
Further action will be taken after the victim’s relatives lodge a complaint, police said.
