New Delhi, Oct 14 Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of declaring 13.3 crore Indians left out of SIR as “infiltrators”, terming it an insult to Indians.
He also accused Shah of “vote chori” and “stealing” Jantar Mantar from the public by denotifying it as a protest site.
“Declaring 13.3 crore Indians outside SIR as ‘ghuspaithiye’ by the Home Minister is an insult to Indianness,” he said on X.
“Despite the Supreme Court’s decision, removing Jantar Mantar from being the designated protest site… First ‘vote chori’ (vote theft), then ‘theft of the right to protest’ — this is proof of BJP’s authoritarianism,” the Congress chief said.
Kharge asked the minister to “stop protecting Gyanesh Kumar”, the chief election commissioner, as he lambasted forced detentions and other alleged police excesses against the protesters.
“Brutality from police against our daughters, open impunity for RSS thugs, no one will bow before the oppressive policies of Modi-Shah anymore.
“The nation is raising its voice, and will hold the BJP accountable for every single thing,” he said.
Shah, in his first remarks on the ongoing protests against Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR exercise, on Tuesday asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition to be ready for a “crushing defeat” again in 2029.
He asserted that the people are with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and they can see through Gandhi’s “plan” to get “infiltrators” registered as voters.
Shah said that while the SIR started in 2024, the Congress has been losing since Gandhi took over the party leadership. PTI SKC 1.0.
