Srinagar, Oct 14 Police, in coordination with the Army, railway police and CRPF, conducted an anti-Fidayeen attack drill on Wednesday at a railway station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.
“Kulgam Police, in coordination with the Army, GRP, RPF and CRPF, conducted an anti-fidayeen mock drill at Harnag Railway Station to assess operational preparedness and inter-agency coordination,” a police spokesperson said.
During the exercise, road cut-offs were established at designated locations, and participating agencies carried out coordinated response measures to neutralise the simulated threat and ensure the safe evacuation of passengers and civilians, he said.
The exercise aimed to enhance operational readiness, improve response time and strengthen coordination among security agencies to ensure an effective response to any eventuality, he added.
Handwara SSP Sajad Khaliq Bhat reviewed the security and operational preparedness in the North Kashmir police district.
Bhat, who assumed charge on Monday, undertook a detailed review of critical security and policing aspects, including investigation of cases under the NDPS and the UAPA Acts, identification of security hotspots, vulnerability mapping, deployment arrangements, law-and-order preparedness and preventive security measures.
He directed officers to strengthen the security grid, intensify patrolling and naka checking, maintain heightened vigilance at sensitive locations and ensure timely preventive action against elements likely to disturb peace and public order.
Bhat also stressed the importance of effective surveillance outside prisons, in accordance with established legal procedures, to identify and prevent potential security threats.
Emphasising the importance of social media surveillance, the SSP directed officers to closely monitor online platforms for provocative, misleading and unlawful content that could affect public peace and security, and to initiate appropriate action in accordance with law.
