Guwahati, Oct 15 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated the city’s first Living Wall project beneath the Bhagadatta Flyover-I in Dispur, an initiative to develop green spaces at 20 locations under flyovers across Guwahati.
Implemented by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change’s National Clean Air Programme, the project aims to enhance urban greenery and improve the city’s visual appeal.
Addressing the inaugural function, Sarma said the initiative would create green spaces beneath flyovers and encourage people to protect the environment.
He described the project as a welcome addition to Guwahati during the festive season.
The project is being implemented at a cost of Rs 34.82 crore.
Sarma said special irrigation arrangements had been made to ensure regular watering of the plants, promote healthy growth and maintain the long-term sustainability of the living walls.
