Kolkata, Oct 18 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday visited the state police’s traffic control room in Salt Lake and the Kolkata Police control room at Lalbazar to review traffic management and crowd safety arrangements at major Durga Puja pandals.
In a post on X, Adhikari said he visited the two facilities to assess the ground situation and review preparations for managing crowds during the festival.
This came amid heightened security arrangements and tightened crowd management measures put in place a day after a stampede at a prominent Durga Puja in Kolkata claimed 19 lives and left 25 injured..
At the Araksha Bhawan in Salt Lake, he reviewed traffic management, surveillance infrastructure and operational preparedness with senior police officers. While visiting Lalbazar, he inspected live CCTV feeds monitoring crowd movement, traffic routes and footfall around major puja pandals.
“Safety and well-being of every citizen remain our utmost priority,” Adhikari said in his X post.
The chief minister said the administration and police were keeping a close watch on the situation and making real-time adjustments wherever necessary. He also highlighted increased police deployment and round-the-clock vigilance to ensure compliance with crowd safety regulations.
Adhikari appealed to puja committees and devotees to cooperate with police and administrative personnel to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the festival.
