Gurugram, Oct 14 One motorcycle and 50 challans piling up to a total of Rs 3.22 lakh — this was the tally when Gurugram Traffic police impounded the two-wheeler during a checking drive near CRPF Chowk on Wednesday, police said
Most of the challans were for violations such as riding without a helmet, absence of a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and riding without a number plate, among other traffic offences, they said.
According to police, Zonal Officer at CRPF Chowk, ASI Sandeep, and his team were conducting a routine vehicle-checking drive when they stopped the motorcycle and asked the rider to produce its documents for verification. However, the rider failed to produce any documents.
Upon verification, the police found that 50 challans were pending against the motorcycle under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, involving a total fine of Rs 3,22,500.
“Taking action in accordance with the applicable rules due to the pending challans, Gurugram Traffic Police impounded the motorcycle and parked it at the designated parking facility,” a senior traffic police officer said.
Police did not immediately provide details of the period over which the 50 challans had accumulated.
The Gurugram Traffic Police has been conducting special enforcement drives against motorists violating traffic rules. As part of these drives, action is being taken under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, against vehicle owners who have failed to pay their pending challans for a prolonged period.
Motorists are also being informed about their outstanding challans and encouraged to clear their dues on time, police said.
The Gurugram Police spokesperson appealed to motorists to strictly follow traffic rules and keep essential vehicle documents, including valid insurance and a PUC certificate, along with other required papers, up to date.
Motorists were also urged to pay pending challans on time, as compliance with traffic rules is essential to ensure the safety of both motorists and other road users, the spokesperson said.
