New Delhi, Oct 23 Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu on Friday inaugurated the National Capital Region Transport Corporation’s (NCRTC) exhibition stall at the 19th Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2026 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The two-day event, which began on Friday, showcases the Namo Bharat regional rail system, transport integration and transit-oriented development initiatives undertaken by the NCRTC, the corporation said in a statement.

Sahu, along with Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and other dignitaries, visited the stall, where NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goel and senior officials presented the features of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and its impact on connectivity across the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.

According to the NCRTC, since the commencement of operations on its priority section in October 2023, Namo Bharat has recorded over 4.5 crore passenger journeys, with more than one lakh commuters using the service daily.

The 82-kilometre corridor has 15 stations and integrates Meerut Metro services on the same infrastructure. The semi-high-speed regional rail system aims to provide faster and more comfortable connectivity across the National Capital Region, it said in a statement.

The NCRTC also showcased the potential for replicating the RRTS model in other parts of the country. Nearly 2,900 kilometres of potential Namo Bharat corridors have been identified across major regional clusters, reflecting the scope for expanding regional connectivity, it said.

The exhibition also showcases the corporation’s Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) plans, which seek to integrate transport infrastructure with planned urban development around transit stations. The approach aims to promote well-connected residential, commercial and mixed-use spaces while supporting sustainable urban growth.

Proposed developments around Duhai Namo Bharat station and Sarai Kale Khan, along with planned TOD townships at Harnandipuram and New Meerut, were among the projects highlighted at the exhibition.

The NCRTC stall features interactive models, visual displays and information on the system’s design and technology. Visitors can experience the use of augmented reality and virtual reality in the development and maintenance of the Namo Bharat system, the statement said.

The Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2026 is being jointly organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Odisha government. The theme this year — Urban Accessibility and Liveability in Digital Age — focuses on transport integration, improved accessibility and the use of digital technologies to enhance urban mobility.

The event brings together policymakers, transport authorities, industry representatives and experts to discuss solutions for sustainable and efficient urban transport, it added.
