Pune, Oct 21 Four people were killed and three others injured when their SUV rammed into a truck and subsequently collided with a tempo on a highway flyover in Maharashtra’s Satara district, police said on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 10.30 pm on Tuesday on the Pune-bound flyover in Malkapur village near Karad town in the western Maharashtra district, they said.

According to police, the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) driver attempted to overtake a goods truck from the left, but instead rammed into it from the rear side. The impact caused the SUV to spin out of control, hit the flyover’s protective railing and collide head-on with an oncoming tempo.

SUV driver Tejas Deshmukh, and three other occupants — Sagar Nimbalkar, Suyash Chinchkar and Rohit Dhotre — all residents of Katarkhatav village in Satara district, died in the accident, they said.

Three other occupants of the vehicle — identified as Aman Tamboli, Ruturaj Dubale and Shantanu Shingade — sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital in Karad.
