Sahibganj (Jharkhand), Oct 18 The bodies of a couple who married six months ago were found inside their house in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place at Kashinath Mandal Tola within Radhanagar police station area.

Rajmahal SDPO Vimlesh Kumar Tripathi told PTI that the deceased have been identified as Vikram Saha (26) and Mamuni Basak.

“The woman’s body was found lying on the floor soaked in blood, while the man’s body was discovered hanging from a noose in the nearby room. Preliminary suspicions suggest that the man first murdered his wife by slitting her throat with a sharp-edged weapon, and then hanged himself. However, the motive behind the incident remains unclear,” the police officer said.

Quoting locals, police said the couple married around six months ago.

The couple had retired to their room for the night on Saturday, while family members and neighbours remained unaware of what had transpired inside.

On Sunday morning, when the door remained shut for an unusually long period, Vikram’s younger brother, Prashant Saha, grew suspicious.

He knocked on the door and called out to the couple but received no response. When the door was opened, Vikram was found hanging from a noose, while Mamuni was lying on the floor in a pool of blood, police said, citing statements from family members.

Police took custody of both bodies, completed the necessary legal formalities and sent them to Rajmahal Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

“We are examining all possible angles to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. We are also awaiting the post-mortem reports,” a police officer said.
