Saharanpur (UP), Oct 18 Three men were killed and two others seriously injured after their car rammed into a road divider near Belda roundabout here in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

The five occupants, all Agra residents, were travelling to Mussoorie for a holiday. They had left Agra around 9 pm on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 4 am under the Nangal police station limits when the car was allegedly travelling at high speed and the driver apparently dozed off, losing control of the vehicle, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Shailendra Srivastava told PTI.

The impact was severe, leaving the car badly damaged, with its windscreen and other glass shattered and scattered across the road.

Police personnel and passersby rescued the five occupants from the wreckage and rushed them to a primary health centre, where doctors declared three of them dead.

The deceased were identified as Saksham Upadhyay, 23,

Sahil Tiwari and Rahul Singh — both aged 25. The injured, identified as Sachin and Hemant, are undergoing treatment at the district hospital, the SP said.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem. Police informed the victims’ families.

Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding may have caused the accident. Police are also examining the possibility that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, the SP said.
